High End Or High Street?

With so many amazing high street brands offering affordable makeup why splurge on the expensive stuff. I’m giving my opinion on whether I think its worth spending extra or saving it for a rainy day.
Foundation

With my foundation and primer in my opinion this step in terms of quality is just as important as the products you use for your actual skin care regime. It’s going directly onto your skin and so using a higher quality product for me is what I prefer and to be honest worth it. I wear makeup on a daily basis, its just what I do and therefore I think it is worth spending the extra to find a good foundation that works well for your skin. I have generally non reactive skin, but have in the past used cheaper brands and  have found it to cause reddening or a slight flare up so this is enough to make me think inexpensive foundations just don’t suit my skin. For me personally, if I am using really nice skin care products, to then use a foundation of lesser quality just doesn’t make sense and the same goes for my primer. I have been using "Estee Lauder double wear light" lately as a daytime foundation and I really love the Estee primer too. Benefit the porefessional is also really really good, and one I have used several times aswell.
powder

Unless using a system like bare minerals and then the mineral veil powder. I do often go for a highstreet powder. I think there are some really good ones that work well over most foundations and have the lasting power too. Lately i’ve been using "rimmel matte finish powder" and for someone whose skin can be particually oily this has worked so well! I also don’t need to reapply unless I am retouching my makeup halfway through the day which is rare during the week. This is an added bonus with a child and not much spare time for faffing with makeup once its been applied once already!

Eyeliner
Highstreet again for eyeliner. I don’t think you can go wrong with highstreet eyeliners and lip pencils and they are a really easy way to save back money on makeup. Ive used a couple of higher end pencils and to be honest i’m quite happy to use lower cost because I find they work just as well.

Mascara

I quite like quite a few higher end mascaras but since shopping on a more tighter budget I’ve tried a few highstreet ones and there pretty bloody good ! I have to say I’ve been impressed with quite a few drug store mascaras and they are definitely worth a try if your trying to cinch in a part of your makeup allowance ! The new “Total Temptation” mascara by maybeline is one I brought recently and really like! No transfer whilst wearing and really full lashes. And  I am one for changing my mascara really regularly too so this is so much more affordable when using a cheaper brand.

Lipstick
I am slightly on the fence with this one. Because I use both. I will use a higher end lipstick on a special occasion, and day to day because I reapply it I won’t use anything too expensive. I won’t wear a liner day to day either as Its just less maintenance when i’m busy throughout the day. Higher end lipsticks I love are Chanel and Urban decay and highstreet I really like Rimmel.

Brows
Ive been using Benefit “Gimme Brow” for about 4 years now and still love it so much so I can’t see myself changing from it any time soon Its applied using a brush similar textured to a mascara wand and the liquid helps to thicken and even your brows. it is so so quick and super easy to use . I will sometimes use it occasionally alongside the Benefit brow pallet but the “gimme brow is what I go for daily I love it for making brows look fuller . I did however buy the maybelline tattoo brow and so far im quite impressed ! Its essentially a semi permanent tint  but I do find it doesn’t last longer than 2 days on me as to oppose the advertised 3 days I would say its quite similar to the Benefit “gimme brow” with the results but just slightly longer lasting. Both products come in 3 different shades and surprisingly I always go for a medium shade for a more natural look. As a 90’s baby Im not going to lie I was guilty of over plucking brows as a teen so they need a little help in hand with filling!! I would say Benefit is pretty affordable and midrange in terms of cost and so definitely something I will carry on using I just love it so much !!

Its safe to say my make-up drawer is a complete mix when it comes to brands, and prices. I think that you can definitely get some really good high-street buys out there but possibly like me when you find a higher end product you adore you just stick to it !
